String Blocking Copy

The right hand has the job of dampening the strings. This helps produce a clean connected sound between notes without any unwanted noise.

1ST STRING

Lets begin with the top E string which I have coloured in green. As you can see the thumb is doing all the blocking as it lays against the strings coloured red while the index or first finger strikes the 1stt string. The slide will be focused on the sound produced on this string as the other strings are blocked by the thumb.

2ND STRING

Take the thumb and second fingers of the right hand and dampen the 2 outside strings. The thumb blocks the third string and second finger blocks the first string while the first finger strikes the 2nd string.

3RD STRING

Take the thumb and second fingers of the right hand and dampen the 2 outside strings. The thumb blocks the fourth string and second finger blocks the 2nd string while the first finger strikes the 3rd string.

4th STRING

Take the thumb and second fingers of the right hand and dampen the 2 outside strings. The thumb blocks the 5th string and second finger blocks the 3rd string while the first finger strikes the 4th string.

5th STRING

Take the thumb and second fingers of the right hand and dampen the 2 outside strings. The thumb blocks the 6th string and second finger blocks the 4th string while the first finger strikes the 5th string.

6th STRING

We have to take a different approach with the 6th string – the 1st finger strikes the 6th string while the 2nd and 3rd finger rest on strings below it blocking any sound
